I’ve owned an iPad for quite some time now, with it’s main purpose to replace dozens of binders for school. I use an app called Notability (which I will write a review for it later), with a stylus to take notes in class. Previously I’ve used a regular rubber tip stylus, the standard kind that’s sold everywhere. It’s alright to take notes; I often have an issue where the rubber will skid the surface and skip while I’m trying to take notes and it doesn’t show up properly. Whenever I visit a tech store, I often go by to see if there is any alternatives for it since I wanted to take notes as efficiently and smoothly as possible. I saw the Adonit Jot Flip pen at Staples and decided to give it a try.
The little plastic tip of the stylus is pretty ingenious, it glides onto the surface of the tablet really smoothly and effectively — way better than the rubber ends! Writing notes on the tablet has never been more fun! It’s also great for drawing and colouring on the iPad as well. Each of the stylus also comes with a cap to protect the disc from damage and making the stylus look very chic. There are several kinds of these stylus and they come in different colours as well:
Jot Classic: which is just the stylus and the cap
Jot Pro: has rubber grip and magnetic cling to stick onto the metal part of the tablet
Jot Mini: smaller stylus with a cap
Jot Flip: rubber grip with pen clip and twist up pen on the other end with cap
Jot Touch: bluetooth 4.0 pressure sensitive stylus with palm rejection with cap and charging dock
you can check out more information on each of these at the website http://adonit.net/store/product/ .
The one I got was the Jot Flip. It is a plastic disc on one end and on the other is a pen that comes up and down if you twist the stylus. This is really neat because it’s out of your way when you don’t need it and it also doesn’t spill any ink too. I don’t see them sell this at Bestbuy or Futureshop, only at Staples so far. The disc is detachable and you have to be careful with hitting the tip at something hard because it can fall off with a strong force and since they’re clear, it’s hard to look for it. I actually accidentally knocked it off and couldn’t find it, so I ended up having to order new discs for it. I tried amazon but the reviews weren’t good and I was afraid of getting knock offs, so I purchased from their actual website. They also have replacement parts for caps too incase you lose your cap. The shipping took less than 2 weeks for it to arrive (to Canada from Asia) .. I think their headquarters is in Taiwan I’m not sure lol.
After using this I cannot go back to using the rubber end stylus anymore! I highly recommend this if you write or draw on your iPad a lot! I don’t think its that pricey considering I use it everyday for school and it serves it purpose perfectly. The Jot Flip was 35$, cause it came with the pen .. you can get the regular ones and I think they run for 16$ .. you can always check out their site for more details.
